ORA THE MOLECULE A PIECE OF HEAVEN

We complete our fascinating journey with the pan-global experimentalist outfit Ora The Molecule with ‘A Piece of Heaven’. This synth-heavy bop completes Ora’s Sugar EP, which includes previous List Picks ‘Samurai’ and ‘The Cup’. Despite it’s celestial name, ‘A Piece of Heaven’ sounds edgier than its EP counterparts. Beginning with a ghostly Warpaint-esque production, our anticipation is quickly met with a thick bass synth line that transports us to a dimly-lit disco. As with each of their tracks, there’s a glimpse of world music to be found in the burst of layered chanting in the chorus, however, this element is relatively minimal compared to the deep grooves. It’s the pulsating beats, searing electronics and cool-as-cucumber lyrics that is the core of Ora’s fourth and final EP contribution. - Hannah Thacker   [Photo credit: Mats Bakken]
